Short answer

The main video generators on October 23, 2026 are Gemini Omni in the Gemini app (for Google subscribers 18 and over), Runway (from $12 a month billed yearly, Gen-4.5 at 12 credits per second), Midjourney video (SD on every plan) and Adobe Firefly (generative credits). OpenAI discontinued the Sora app on April 26, 2026 and the Sora API on September 24, 2026; content can still be exported before deletion.

Prices and limits change often: check the vendor's page before you pay. How we make money.

The video generators most people can use on October 23, 2026 are Gemini Omni inside the Gemini app, Runway, Midjourney's video mode and Adobe Firefly. One name is missing on purpose: OpenAI discontinued the Sora web and app experiences on April 26, 2026 and the Sora API on September 24, 2026. This guide compares the options that remain from their official pages, read on October 23, 2026, explains how each one charges and what to check before you publish a generated clip.

If you used Sora

OpenAI's help page is clear: the Sora web and app experiences ended on April 26, 2026 and the API on September 24, 2026. You can still export what you made from sora.chatgpt.com/sunset, and OpenAI says it will permanently delete Sora data once any final export window has passed, so do it now if you have not. Credits you bought for ChatGPT or Sora can still be used in Codex. The rest of this guide covers where to go instead.

Table: video generators compared (official pages, checked October 23, 2026)

Item Gemini Omni Runway Midjourney Adobe Firefly
Free use no: Google subscribers only 125 one-time credits no free plan depends on your Adobe plan
How it charges part of your plan's usage limits; video uses the most monthly credits; Gen-4.5 costs 12 credits per second GPU time; unlimited relaxed SD video on Pro and Mega monthly generative credits
Entry price a paid Google plan Standard, $15 a month or $12 a month billed yearly Basic, $10 a month (SD video) Creative Cloud and Firefly plans
Strong point edit by chatting, mix text, photos and video many models in one place, 4K upscaling the same style as your Midjourney images inside the Adobe apps you already use

Gemini Omni

Google introduced Gemini Omni on May 19, 2026 as its video tool in the Gemini app: you describe a video, or blend text, photos and existing clips, and refine it by chatting, much as Nano Banana works for images. It is available to Google subscribers aged 18 and over, and Google notes that availability varies by region. Usage counts against your plan's limits, which refresh every 5 hours up to a weekly cap, and Google warns that video uses more than any other request. Our page on Gemini pricing has the plan prices; Google introduced an Ultra plan from $100 a month that includes Omni with higher access.

Runway

Runway is a dedicated video studio that bundles its own Gen-4.5 model with others such as Kling, Seedance and Google's Nano Banana Pro for images. Everything runs on credits:

  • Free: 125 credits, once, that do not expire.
  • Standard: $15 a month, or $12 a month billed yearly, for 625 credits, which Runway says equals 52 seconds of Gen-4.5 video.
  • Pro: $35 a month, or $28 yearly, for 2,250 credits.
  • Max: $95 a month, or $76 yearly, for 9,500 credits, with up to one month of unused credits rolling over.

On Standard and Pro, monthly credits reset each cycle and do not roll over; extra credits are sold from 1,000 and never expire. Runway says Gen-4.5 costs 12 credits per second, so a five-second clip uses 60.

Midjourney and Firefly

If you already pay for Midjourney, video is included: every plan generates SD video, Standard and above add HD, and Pro and Mega allow unlimited SD video in the slower Relax mode. Fast generations use your monthly GPU hours. Our comparison of image generators has the full Midjourney plan table.

Adobe Firefly uses the same generative credits for video as for images, and the cost of each generation depends on the feature. Its advantage is the workflow: the clip lands in the Adobe apps where you edit it.

Before you publish a clip

  • Count the seconds, not the clips. Runway prices per second and Google counts video as its heaviest request, so a minute of finished video usually means many attempts. Budget for several times the final length.
  • Check the rights. Midjourney's commercial terms require Pro or Mega for companies with more than $1,000,000 a year in revenue, and each service has its own usage policy.
  • Label it where the law asks. In the EU, synthetic video that looks real has transparency duties; our guide to Article 50 explains who must label what.
  • Write the shot, not the story. Describe one scene, the camera, the light and the movement, and change one thing per attempt. Our prompt engineering basics apply here too.

For most people the choice is simple: try Gemini Omni if you already pay for a Google plan, Runway if video is the main job, and Midjourney if you want clips in the style of your images.
